Lather & Blade Shaving Brushes

A shaving brush is a small brush that comes with a handle bristles, which is used to apply shaving cream or soap to the face when shaving. The brushes are decorative and come with antique handles that are made from a wide range of materials such as gold and ivory. The bristles are made of synthetic or natural materials hence they are a must have tool for wet shavers. When used appropriately, they gently massage the face and reduce the chance of in-growing hairs. They work by stimulating facial blood supply and enhance the post shave feel.

Modern shave brushes are fashioned using different materials including but not limited to nylonsyntheticurethane and plastic. We prefer synthetic made materials because it is resistant to moisture and damage. We also source for shaving brush made of natural products such as wood and exotic materials such as tortoise shell. The handle is meant to enhance the usability of the brush.

How to Use a Shaving Brush

When it comes to shaving, proper use of the brushes determines whether you achieve the desired results or not.  It is important to note that the shaving brush does not just help to build lather in the face. It helps to open the pores, exfoliate the skin, raise the facial hair, reduce skin irritation, reduces the cost of shaving and help one to relax. Thus, knowing how to use the brush is important and will help you achieve more.

Here is the correct way to use a shave brush:

Step 1

The first thing you need to do is to fill a cup with warm water and dip the brush in it. Ensure that the entire brush is dipped into the warm water.

Step 2

To get the best results, you should prepare the hair. This can be done by showering so as to help it get soft. It also helps in the lathering process.

Step 3

This stage entails the process of lathering. All you need to do is take the brush and squeeze it so that the excess water goes away. By just applying a little pressure, it ensures that the brush remains moist and ready for the job.

Step 4

This is where lather is built. You may choose to use a shaving cream or soap. Push your finger at the top of the brush so as to create a cavity in hair and apply a shaving cream. You should then put some cream on the cavity of the brush hair and apply. If you are using soap, swirl it on top of the shaving soap for about 4 to 10 seconds until you get some soap on the brush.

Step 5

Make pumping motions in the bowl to make the shaving cream and water to mix and get incorporated in the lather. Ensure that you pump your motion of shaving so that you can build up the lather.

Step 6

Swirl the brush in the mug or bowl so as to create lather. It should take you 30 to 90 seconds to build a rich lather. Combine swirling and pumping if you want to get the best results.

Step 7

After building lather in the bowl, use the shaving brush to apply it on your face. Ideally, there are two moves you need to make with your brush on the face. It includes swirling and painting the lather on your face. In the meantime, before you apply the lather, ensure that the face is wet and swirl the brush across the face. This should be done without applying too much pressure, and it should be repeated for about 10-15 seconds. This ensures that the lathering is thorough and helps to exfoliate the skin.

Step 8

It is where the shaving brush is used to paint the face. It should be done up and down. This should be done until there is enough lather on the face. It helps to smoothen the face and ensure that you get the closest shave. If your beard is long, it helps to get the facial hair in one particular direction so that it can be cut effortlessly.

Step 9

If you want to get the desired results, it is recommended that you lather the face once more after the first pass with a razor. Just ensure that the lather does not dry as you save.

Step 10

Once you are through, you should rinse the brush thoroughly. Ensure that no lather is left and that only clean water is running through the hair. You will get better results by swirling the brush in a bowl of clean water. This should be repeated until the brush is clean. Squeeze the excess water and dry it using a towel.

It is important to remember that knowing how to lather with a shave brush while wet shaving is critical. However, you need to learn how to use and maintain the brush. Also, you need to learn more about how to take care of the other wet shaving tools to help you enjoy the shaving adventures.
